Beth Mead MBE

Beth Mead MBE is a celebrated England international and Arsenal forward who has become one of the most recognisable faces in women’s football. Known for her creativity, leadership, and goal-scoring prowess, she made history at UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, winning the Golden Boot, Player of the Tournament, and finishing as top assist provider, as England lifted their first major tournament trophy. Later that year, she became the first female footballer to be named BBC Sports Personality of the Year, cementing her place as a national icon. Growing up in the small village of Hinderwell in North Yorkshire, Beth began playing football at just six years old. Despite being the only girl in her school and club teams, she quickly earned respect for her skill and determination. Her early talent caught the attention of Middlesbrough’s Centre of Excellence, before she signed with Sunderland at the age of 16. While playing professionally, Beth balanced football with academic life, earning a BA in Sports Development from Teesside University. In 2022, she launched the Beth Mead Scholarship at her alma mater to support female footballers in higher education, showing her commitment to helping the next generation succeed.

Beth's impact on the pitch is extraordinary. She won the WSL Golden Boot in 2015 at just 20, becoming the youngest player to do so. She helped Sunderland to a fourth-place WSL finish before moving to Arsenal, where she has won multiple domestic titles and played a central role in securing the club's 2024–25 UEFA Women’s Champions League victory. At Arsenal, she became the WSL’s all-time leading assist provider, set records for most assists in a season and most chances created, and was twice the league’s top assist maker. For England, Beth was a key figure in the 2019 World Cup run to the semi-finals, and in 2025, she scored in the penalty shootout as England claimed another UEFA Women’s Euro title. Off the pitch, she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2023 for her services to football.
