Artful Dodger are an English garage and R&B band famed for their work on the UK garage scene and their smash 2-step hits and collaborations with the famed singer, Craig David. Considered tastemakers of the world-famous UK garage scene, their hits went a long way in inspiring young artists and developing the roots for dubstep and grime. These titans of the industry are a must for all events and are sure to get everyone grooving all night long.
Named after the character in Charles Dickens’ novel Oliver Twist, the band drew inspiration from early bootlegging and club shows to create a mystique and excitement around the national club scene. Originally consisting of Mark Hill and Dave Devereux, the duo met while performing in Southampton in 1993. Both were seasoned musicians who bonded over a mutual appreciation of the club scene.
Operating out of their club, they would draw big artists from London and hand the visiting artists their own tracks. This created a buzz among the busy London scene and they were soon on everyone’s radar. Fame found them after their collaboration with Craig David on the hit single ‘Re-Rewind’. The single went on to chart across the world reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart and attained platinum status. Their follow-up single “Movin’ Too Fast” was just as successful, also reaching number two on the charts and being certified gold by the BPI.
The new millennium brought further success for the duo as they released ‘Woman Trouble’, “Please Don’t Turn Me On”, ‘Think About Me’, and ‘TwentyFourSeven’ in quick succession. All of these would chart well for the group before they took a brief hiatus from the scene. Artful Dodger was reimagined with Alistair and Dave Low who currently tour the UK amazing old and new fans alike.
Working with Blessed Records, FFRR and London Records they continue to add more work to their illustrious discography and look set to make a big break on the UK music scene. A masterful duo capable of lifting the roof off any venue, Artful Dodger are an act that is sure to draw crowds by the thousands. Their rich history and cutting-edge sound make them the ideal addition to music festivals, club nights, public appearances, product launches and other corporate events.
