Lord Ara Darzi

Lord Ara Darzi is a leading medical professional, best known for his tenure as the former Minister of Health for the Department of UK Health. Having forged a successful career as a surgeon and academic, Ara has since been named Life Peer Baron Darzi of Denham and been appointed Knight Commander for Services to Medicine & Surgery. After his studies at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Ara began his medical career as a Consultant Surgeon at Central Middlesex Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital. Currently, Ara is also a Professor of Surgery at the Institute of Cancer Research and the Chair of the Imperial College London Health Partners. He has also been appointed to Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council and been awarded the Order of Merit for his Services to Medicine. Ara has also authored over 800 peer-reviewed research papers and been elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society.

Having also been awarded a fellowship of the American College of Surgeons, appointed an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and made a Foreign Associate of the Institute of Medicine, it is without a doubt that Ara is a highly respected figure of the medical sector. Ara has also claimed the Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence, Rector’s Research Excellence Award and the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Excellence in Higher and Further Education.
