Alok Sama

Alok Sama has enjoyed a decorated career working in banking, capital markets and investment, renowned for his tenure as a senior Managing Director of Morgan Stanley and the former President and CFO of SoftBank Group International. Throughout the duration of his career, Alok has experienced everything from capital markets business in Asia to investment banking practice in India, a career that allowed him to publish “The Money Trap: Grand Fortunes & Lost Illusions Inside the Tech Bubble”. After achieving a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School, Alok began his now decorated career working at Morgan Stanley. Before long, Alok was a Senior Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, and during his time with the organisation, he was responsible for communications practice in Europe and the TMT practice in the Asia-Pacific region. He also orchestrated work in India and North America, building his stellar knowledge of finance, banking and business management. Following 16 successful years with Morgan Stanley, Alok became the Founder, President and Director of Baer Capital Partners. Baer Capital Partners was an alternative asset management firm focused in India, boasting over $300m in assets. Continuing his work with Baer Capital Partners to this day, Alok is also renowned for his work as the Chief Financial Officer and President of SoftBank Group International. 

During his tenure at SoftBank Group International, Alok famously led the merger of Sprint and T-Mobile, which was valued at a staggering $59bn. He also played a significant role in the acquisition of ARM Holdings Plc, valued at $34bn, the disposition of SoftBank’s stake in Alibaba Group Holdings, valued at $10bn, and the sale of Supercell Oy to Tencent Holdings, valued at $8.6bn. He was also instrumental in growth capital investments for the organisation, along with the restructuring of the bank’s holding in Yahoo Japan. Such substantial achievements have given Alok an industry-leading reputation, allowing him to provide expert advice as a Board Member of SB Energy, Arm, Brightstar Corp, Fortress Investment Group, Airtel Africa and SoFi. Alok has also spent time as a Senior Advisor for organisations such as The Raine Group and Warburg Pincus LLC.
