Alex Partridge has been at the pinnacle of the rowing world throughout his 15 year career. The British Olympic Athlete of the Year for rowing in 2010, and despite missing out on Athens 2004 through injury, his hard work and dedication to the sport culminated in an Olympic bronze medal within the Men’s eight at London 2012. Alex's career is a prime example of overcoming adversity, peak performance and maximising success whenever possible, making him one of the most sought after olympic speakers and after dinner speakers around. Due to be part of the Men’s four at Athens, cracked ribs and a subsequent collapsed lung meant that he would miss the Olympic games, with the four going on to claim gold. Once his injury had healed he went on to reclaim his place in the four, with the boat going on to successfully take gold at the World Championships.
At the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Partridge became part of the Men’s Eight to claim Olympic silver. Throughout his career, Partridge has claimed 6 World Championship medals, 14 World Cup medals and 2 Olympic medals - most recently bronze at London 2012 as part of the Men’s Eight. A terrific after dinner speaker, Alex recounts anecdotal tales of his time in elite sport and the drive needed in order to succeed. Despite the ecstasy of winning a medal at a home Olympics, Partridge’s joy was soon turned to dismay as his medal was stolen at a function prior to the athlete’s parade through London. Partridge, and Hannah McLeod, a hockey player who also had her medal stolen- took to social media and a huge investigation was launched.
Despite McLeod having her medal returned, Partridge’s award is yet to be found, leaving Alex with a sour taste for the competition. This bittersweet experience of London 2012 leave the Olympic speaker with an unrivalled account of the highs and lows of top-flight competition. Partridge has experienced a career with extreme highs, and exceptional lows. Winning and losing Olympic medals, injuries and battles for selection have developed him into a true and passionate sportsman. This passion is clearly evident as an olympic speaker, breaching a number of topics whilst providing invaluable advice. Having to battle at the top end of his sport for over a decade has equipped him with the knowledge and tools to be able to provide an open and honest insight into the world of elite level sport.
