Date: April 2020
During the UK’s first national lockdown, we booked Helen for a virtual presentation with the CFO of Clinigen. She first discussed how she managed isolation in space and afterwards took part in a Q&A led by one of the company’s senior members. Her attendees received a professional insight into the future of space travel.

Alongside Naga Munchetty and Shaun Wallace, we booked Helen for a virtual talk on working remotely, adapting to change and working with people from different cultures. Her introductory speech and following Q&A enthralled audiences, who received key advice on adapting to the “new normal”.

Who is Helen Sharman?
Learn about the woman behind the spacesuit, Helen Sharman.
Following her PhD from the University College London and a career in chemistry for Mars, Helen responded to a radio advertisement for British astronauts. Standing out from over 10,000 applicants, she was chosen for Project Juno, a Soviet Union–British mission.
Helen underwent intensive flight training, before boarding the Mir space station in 1991. For several days, she completed various tests and spoke with British schoolchildren via a radio call. In taking part in the Soyuz TM-12 mission, Helen became the first European woman in space, as well as the first British astronaut and cosmonaut.
With her feet firmly back on earth, Helen later embarked on a speaking career, and published several books including her autobiography, Seize the Moment. She has since worked with the National Physical Laboratory and the Imperial College London, continuing her study of chemistry, space and nanoanalysis.
