James Wells

International Karate Athlete and Cancer Survivor

James is an international Karate athlete competing at major competitive events both domestically and overseas. A world Bronze medalist in 2015 whilst representing England at the World Cup and US Open tournaments in Las Vegas, he was also a runner-up and subsequent Silver medalist at both the 2015 and 2016 UK Open events.

At just 27 years-of-age, what makes his success so remarkable is achieving it at the very highest level as a two-time cancer survivor… James is only here today thanks to a life-saving stem-cell transplant. Having battled Leukaemia for two years, between 2010 and 2011, he was told by doctors he might never be able to fight again. He is proud most of all – even before his exploits as an athlete and fighter – to call himself a survivor.

The driving force behind his motivation since has been and always will be, to repay the debt he owes to his younger sister – whose stem-cells saved his life. Ultimately, he believes in promoting the value of sport and exercise as a tool for cancer recovery. By using his own unique example and sporting pedigree, he is convinced he has the potential to help improve cancer recovery not only domestically, but on a global scale.
