A manager and player, Alan Mullery MBE enjoyed a career in football that spanned over nearly four decades. A tough but quick midfielder, Alan came through the ranks at Fulham, making his debut in 1958, Alan was made captain just a year later after Johnny Haynes suffered an injury.
A terrific personality for events, Alan has addressed a multitude of audiences as a football speaker, with every guest being entertained by a host of anecdotal tales for his career.
After leaving Fulham with a game short of 200 appearances, Alan joined Tottenham in 1964 for £72,500. Winning the FA Cup in 1967 after beating Chelsea 2-1, Mullery set up the opening goal for Jimmy Robertson thanks to his destructive run from deep. Picking up England caps whilst enjoying success with Tottenham, Alan reached the last four of the 1968 European Championships, gaining his place in the team over World Cup winner Nobby Styles.
An ideal after dinner speaker for sporting and business events, Alan has addressed numerous audiences with engaging ideas and insights into the game.
Mullery also played a significant role in England’s attempted defence of the World Cup in 1970. Playing against West Germany in the final, Alan proved why he was a stalwart figure within the team, delivering consistent performances time and time again.
Striving to teach audience members of the drive and determination needed to become a professional sportsman as a sports speaker, Alan compels and intrigues guests throughout the evening. Winning the league cup and the FA Cup in 1971, Alan was one of the most decorated players of his time. Moving back to Fulham in 1972, Alan won the BBC’s Goal of the Season competition with a swerving volley from 25 yards.
Retring from professional football in 1976, Alan had a successful managerial career at Brighton & Hove Albion before later managing Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace and QPR and Brighton once more. Alan has also worked for many years as a pundit for Sky Sports, proving his expert analytical skill and engaging personality.
As of 2013, Alan has been a club ambassador for his old team, Brighton. A leading figure in the club’s hospitality arrangements, Brian understands what exactly is needed for people to enjoy themselves – traits he instills during talks as an after dinner speaker and football speaker.
