Steve Harmison


Known for his fast bowl, Steve Harmison MBE is a former first-class cricketer that represented England in sixty-three Tests, fifty-eight ODIs and two T20s. Recognised also for his time playing county cricket for Durham and Yorkshire. 2002 saw his Test and ODI debut for England where he started to show potential as a solid strike bowler for England, by the 2003-04 season he went on to become the highest wicket-taker in the series.

During the 2005 Ashes series Steven played a vital role in England’s victory which saw him named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year. At his peak, he was described as one of the world’s strongest fast bowlers however following his Ashe’s performance he became inconsistent. Announcing his retirement from ODOs in 2006 due to problems surrounding fitness and the intense competition.

He played his last test for England in 2009 Ashes series followed by hs last ODI against West Indies in the same year. Steve was a truly skilled bowler with the ability to extract bounce from any pitch, he was advantaged due to his height of 6’4′ but he also had the capability to swing the ball while maintaining speeds of over 90mph. His lethal spell of bowling leads to former Australian cricketer Shane Warne naming him on his list of 50 Greatest Cricketers. Warne stated ‘on his day, he is one of the most awkward bowlers to face in the world’. Following his retirement from cricket, between 2015 and 107 Steve went on to manage his hometown football club, Ashington.
