Geraint Jones

LEGENDARY KENT WICKET-KEEPER AND ICONIC 2005 ASHES WINNER

World-renowned cricket speaker, Geraint Jones is a Papua New Guinean-born wicketkeeper who was raised in Australia and is of Welsh descent. His career boasts spending time playing for both the England and Papua New Guinean national teams, and he is one of the most celebrated cricketers of the recent years. Continuing to work as a professional, Jones is also a prolific sports speaker and available for hire for sporting, corporate and charity after-dinner speaker events.

Jones made his Test cricket debut in 2004 and spent the next two years as the first-choice wicketkeeper for England at both Test and One Day International games. Geraint achieved his first Test match century less than a year into his Test match career and has continued this success in his domestic career. Though he was replaced as wicketkeeper for England by cricket speaker and Brit Chris Read, Geraint Jones continues to play on PNG’s national team.

Also boasting a successful domestic career Geraint Jones has worked as a cricket speaker and player for British teams Gloucestershire and Kent, spending most of his career playing for Kent. Jones spent more than ten years with Kent, in squad number 9 and achieved his career-best T20 score whilst with the Spitfires in 2009. As of 2015 Geraint Jones has acted as the captain and team sports speaker for Gloucestershire, where he played alongside Hamish Marshall and Michael Beard. Geraint announced his retirement from playing cricket in 2015, also resigning from his role of first-class cricket captain of Gloucester. At the end of his cricketing career, Geraint had played 34 Test matches, 51 One Day International games, 203 First-Class games and 213 limited-overs games.

Now based in the UK Geraint Jones works as an after-dinner speaker in both England and Wales, appearing at sporting and educational events as well as corporate and charity fundraising functions. In the 2006 New Years Honours, the award of Member of the Order of the British Empire was bestowed upon Geraint. This award was given as recognition for the role that Geraint played in the successful Ashes series. Both his dedication and passion for cricket are commendable, whilst also giving him admirable qualities for a great cricket or after-dinner speaker.
