Turi King is a prolific leader in the field of science, genealogy, and history, serving as a Professor of Public Engagement and Genetics at the University of Leicester. Turi is passionate about communicating about science to the public, sharing the vast knowledge she has accumulated over 20 years of her career.
With a rich academic history, Turi possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology and Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, and an MSc in Molecular Genetics & PhD in Genetics from the University of Leicester. Turi has worked with the University of Leicester for 12 years, starting as a Lecturer in Genetics and Archaeology, later Professor of Public Engagement and now Professor of Public Engagement and Genetics.
In 2012, Turi was an integral part of the team who found and identified the remains of King Richard III. Described as one of the ‘biggest forensic DNA cases in history’, Turi’s contribution to this project is of great significance. She delivered the TEDx talk “Richard III: Solving a 500 Year Old Cold Case”, chronicling the process. Her attracted ample media attention post the project and has furthered her career as a TV Presenter, documentary expert and podcaster on genetics, forensics, history, archaeology and similar respects.
Turi is the author of “Surnames, DNA, & Family History”, “The Bones of a King” and “Viking DNA”.
