Technology speaker Steven Sasson is the man who invented the first ever digital camera. In 1975, as an Eastman Kodak employee, Steven was assigned the task of building an electronic camera – something which had never been achieved before. The resulting prototype weighed 8 lbs and featured a 0.01-megapixel camera which recorded black and white images onto cassettes in a 23-second long process. The device received a patent and acted as a foundation for the development of the digital camera devices which are now commonplace. Awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation by President Barack Obama in 2009, Steven went on to be inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2001 and received the Royal Photographic Society’s Progress Medal and an honorary fellowship in 2012.
