Scottish born gymnast Steve Frew is a public and press favourite in the sports world. Having represented Scotland and Britain over 100 times at various gymnastic competitions Steve knows what it takes to optimise peak performance and handle fast paced environments. Here he developed the skills that led him to be part of the national team that he is a member of today. Claiming his first medal when he was only six years old, Steve was destined for a successful career in the sport from a young age.
After years of gaining experience and both triumphs and fails, Steve took to his first Commonwealth Games. It was at his fourth Commonwealth Games that Steve took home a gold medal. He competed at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in the men’s ring event. This win was extremely significant for Steve, he made history for Scotland as it was their first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medallist. Steve’s sporting career spans an impressive 28 years, through which he has competed in two World Championships and five Commonwealth Games.
Now retired from the sport, Steve prides himself as being an eloquent sports and Olympic speaker. He is comfortable sharing both his expertise and personal experiences across a broad demographic to both inspire and motivate individuals to try sport themselves. Steve is an advocate for sport, and frequently encourages others to follow in his sporting footsteps. He frequently visits schools to try and inspire young children to follow sports they are interested in. He visited Kinlochleven High School and Invergordon Academy as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sports Initiative, working as an athlete mentor.
