With a background in film production and media, Steffan co-founded his first media business Ephex Media Limited in 2004. The company produced and edited corporate films for brands like Land Rover, Vodafone, Massey Ferguson, and American Express. In 2008, alongside Guy Browning, Steffan established the film company, Immense Productions Limited, releasing the feature film Tortoise in Love in 2012. During the same period, he joined Buto and co-founded a peer-to-peer mobile payment platform Droplet. In 2013, he became the Strategy Director of Buto. Working through Econsultancy, Steffan has collaborated with brands like Sony, Ralph Lauren and General Mills and has delivered various talks on innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation. In 2017, he was elected as county councillor for the Melton Constable division of Norfolk County Council, being elected as deputy leader of the Liberal Democrat group on the council. In 2019, he stood in the general election in the seat of Mid Norfolk, finishing in third place. The following year, Steffan replaced Ed Maxfield as group leader on Norfolk County Council before being selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate for North Norfolk at the 2024 general election. Winning the seat from the Conservatives, he was then elected Chair of the Liberal Democrat Party in 2025.
As a result of his fantastic career, Steffan has been recognised with a range of accolades. In 2013, he was named among the Top 25 UK Startups by Mashable and was later recognised by the Daily Mirror as one of the Top 20 Most Influential Media Figures Under 30. In 2017, he published ‘Fourth to First: How to win a local election in under six months’, which details how he won a council ward for the Liberal Democrats on his first attempt, with the party finishing fourth in the previous contest. His TEDx talk, 'How to Create More Crazed Fantasists', builds on his creative thinking and background in content production, championing the importance of curiosity and wonder.
