Freelance broadcaster, newsreader and journalist, Sonali Shah is best known for presenting the BBC children's news programme Newsround from 2006 to 2011. She has also been one of the faces of BBC Events and BBC Sports for a number of years, and thus is very experienced at hosting, presenting and interviewing for a variety of events.
Initially starting her professional broadcast career after joining the BBC radio team in 2001, she went on to produce and present news and business programmes on the World Service and Radio 5 Live.
Sonali is the current host of The National Lottery Live on Saturday nights, Radio 4’s Today programme sport bulletins and BBC One’s Escape to the Country. In 2015, she joined the BBC Crimewatch team and occasionally presents the weekend news on BBC World News. Not only this, but she was part of the presentation teams for Delhi 2010, London 2012 and Glasgow 2014.
Sonali was part of the Newsround team that won a BAFTA. She also won the award for Best Children’s Programme at the 2011 AIB Awards, for her film Growing Up In a Warzone.
Away from presenting, Sonali is passionate about supporting young children to succeed and thus is an Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust and the British Asian Trust, as well as regularly supporting Barnardo’s. Moreover, Sonali has been part of the judging panel for BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and took part in Let’s Dance for Comic Relief in 2013.
