Simon Groom is probably most well-known for his eight years spent as a TV presenter on the BBC children’s series Blue Peter but, since leaving the show in the late 1980’s has set up his own production company working alongside fringe film maker Ken Russell.
During his time as a Blue Peter TV presenter Simon travelled the globe presenting from some of the most exotic and sadly, most devastated, cities in the world. He spent time in war torn Cambodia after the fall of the Khmer Rouge and covered the famine crisis in Ethiopia. However his work as a TV presenter also provided him with a few once-in-a-lifetime opportunities including the chance to fly upside down at 30,000 feet!
Since leaving Blue Peter Simon Groom has worked both in front of and behind the camera, setting up his production company Simon has produced a number of documentaries for both radio and television. He has worked as the lead TV presenter for A Steamy Affair: The Story of the Flying Scotsman for Channel 4 and Peak Park Pressures, a tourism documentary for BBC Radio 4.
Outside his work as a TV presenter and producer Simon Groom runs a working farm with his wife Gilly, in Derbyshire, England and has worked as an after dinner speaker at a number of corporate events for clients such as the NHS, BAE Systems and Whitbread. Simon has also leant his talents to radio and television advertisements including providing voice overs for Jaguar Cars and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
