Sharon Thompson is a prominent political figure in the West Midlands. She has held significant leadership roles in Birmingham City Council and the West Midlands Combined Authority and is the Founder of Tilt360Ltd. She now dedicates her time to advocating for social change.
Sharon’s inspiring story begins with her experience as a homeless teenager, which shaped her drive to bring about social change. Since Sharon changed her life around in 2010, she has received numerous awards for her work and continuous contributions to social change and politics.
Since 2014 Sharon has been an elected councilor for the City of Birmingham and has been a dedicated public servant for over a decade. In 2023 Sharon was appointed Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, becoming the first person from a Black or Asian background to hold this position in the city’s history. As deputy leader and cabinet member for Economy & Skills, Sharon oversees Economic Growth, Employment, and Skills, Promotion of the City and Inward Investment, Major Projects, Levelling-Up and Devolution, and Cost-of-Living Initiatives.
She has since become an expert in housing and advocates for the homeless. She has led national campaigns for legislative changes and local government resources. Drawing from her personal experiences of homelessness during her teenage years, she has been a vocal proponent for effective housing strategies. Her leadership extends to various commissions and advisory groups including the Kerslake Commission on Homelessness and Rough Sleeping. Sharon is also committed to supporting women in leadership and is the founder of Tilt360Ltd which supports organisations with their leadership development.
