Sarah Ratty FRSA

Sarah Ratty FRSA is a pioneering sustainable fashion designer and eco-innovator renowned for her visionary approach and use of natural and progressive materials. Her work spans various mediums, including fashion, interiors, styling, and art direction, with a strong focus on ecological design and sustainability. 

Her impressive career includes collaborations with industry leaders such as Levi's and Liberty, and her designs have been sold globally in top stores like Anthropologie, Browns, Harrods, Isetan, Joseph, Joyce, and Nordstrom. Her designs have been worn by A-list celebrities, including Cate Blanchett, Macy Gray, Steps, and Cher. Her first brand, Conscious Earthwear, remains a timeless Y2K fashion favourite. Sarah's work has been prominently featured in the ‘Fashioned from Nature’ exhibition at the V&A Museum (2018-19) and in various influential publications, including Rankin Works, Green is the New Black by Tamsin Blanchard, and Life magazineduring the International Year of Biodiversity at the United Nations (2011).

Sarah's educational background includes studying at prestigious institutions such as Cambridge University, UAL Chelsea College of Art, and the University of Bristol. She was named ‘Student Designer of the Year’ by FW Magazine in 1987, demonstrating early promise in her career.

In 2003, Sarah founded Ciel, an award-winning eco-fashion and lifestyle brand. Ciel has collaborated with notable brands like Whistles, Anthropologie, and Dr. Martens, solidifying Sarah's position not just as a designer and entrepreneur but as a catalyst for positive change. Her collections have earned acclaim on prestigious runways at Paris and London Fashion Week and have been featured in notable publications such as i-D, Vogue, and Time magazine.  As the Founder and Creative Director of Cielshop Interiors, Sarah has led significant projects for high-profile clients, including the Me Hotel London Sky Bar and the Batman movie. 

Beyond her design achievements, Sarah is recognised for her contributions to sustainability. She played a pivotal role in shaping the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) through her involvement in the Working Textiles Committee at the Soil Association. She has received numerous accolades, including the inaugural Ethical Fashion Award presented by HRH Princess Anne and the British Chamber Award for Sustainable Business in London and the Southeast. As a co-founder and chair of the Ethical Fashion Forum, now known as Common Objective, she has collaborated with organisations like the Pesticide Action Network, Environmental Justice Foundation, and Sussex Wildlife Trust.

Sarah Ratty is a sought-after speaker, moderator, panellist, and event host, having graced international stages such as the Tate London, the United Nations, and COP26.
