Sarah Cosgriff (she/they) is a highly respected keynote speaker and advocate for diversity and inclusion in STEM. With over a decade of experience in science communication, Sarah’s work focuses on fostering LGBTQ+ inclusion and driving equity in education. Her dedication to these causes earned her a shortlist spot for the Positive Role Model Award – LGBT at the National Diversity Awards in 2022.
Sarah began her career with an academic foundation in Biological Sciences and Systems Biology at the University of Warwick, which led to roles with prestigious organisations like The Prince’s Trust, University of Birmingham, and the Association for Science Education. Throughout her career, she’s been committed to making STEM accessible to all, particularly underrepresented communities. Her involvement in the Improving Gender Balance programme at the Institute of Physics aimed to address the gender imbalance in A-Level physics, while her role with Schools OUT UK involved developing resources to embed LGBTQ+ people in STEM curricula.
Among her many achievements, Sarah founded the STEM for Queer Youth project, which provides visibility to LGBTQ+ role models in science and was funded by the Biochemical Society. Sarah has also been a Science Communication Consultant for numerous initiatives, including Oxford University’s public engagement training programme and BBC Bitesize’s ‘Show Me The Science’ series. Her impact in inclusivity extends to training workshops, where she’s guided organisations such as UCL, University of Manchester, and the Francis Crick Institute on best practices for diversity and inclusion in education and public engagement.
