Samantha Payne

Samantha Payne is the co-founder of Open Bionics which is an award-winning startup that specialises in developing low-cost bionic hands for amputees or those born without a hand. Her business has been named one of the top 50 robotic businesses in the world alongside Google and Amazon In 2014 she co-founded Open Bionics with Joel Gibbard with the aim to create low-cost bionic hands that look and feel good. Samantha and Joel focused and perfected the business profile, model, network and raising rounds before pitching the company at the Finals of Intel's Global Make it Wearable challenge in 2014.

With over four-hundred entrants, Samantha and Joel came second taking home a cash prize of £250,000. With the training and guidance of some very high profile mentors, Samantha has gained an extensive knowledge when it comes to business and leadership. She completed a three month hands-on training programme in Lean Start-up principles with UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business. Samantha received mentoring from the likes of Philip Kongsgaard Døssing, Senior Concept Designer at Lego group, Pixar's Ralph Guggenheim and former Apple marketer Guy Kawasaki.

Samantha's impressive work within her field has seen her named by Robohub as one of the top 25 women in robotics you need to know about, Marie Claire's Top Women in Tech and shortlisted for the Entrepreneur of the Year. Samantha regular speaks at big events, globally, from guest speaking at the UKTI Brazil Wearables Conference 2015, Greek Picnic Technology Conference in Russia and Smart Nation in Singapore 2015 to 3D Print Show's Medical Conference in Berlin 2015. Samantha has a wealth of experience keynote speaking having made appearances all around the world. She is an extremely interesting individual who shares her experience getting to where she is today along with her business management techniques and skills.
