Once described by the New York Times as a performer “who sings like Pavarotti and entertains the audience like Sinatra” Russell Watson is one of the world’s best tenors. He is known for singing operatic and pop-style songs, with 15 albums, including record-breaking debut album ‘The Voice’. Russell has also provided his vocals to several events such as the UEFA Champions League final, Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation Festival Gala and for US presidents Bill Clinton and George W Bush. As well as his sell-out tours, Russell does appear at private shows and his wide range of song choices means that there is something for everyone and his unbelievable ability is bound to wow any audience and get them on their feet in a chorus of applause.
Russell started his music career singing in working men’s clubs in his native Manchester, as well as winning the ‘Search for a Star’ contest organised by a local radio station in 1990. His big break would come nine years later though after being spotted in a local pub, he was invited to sing “Nessun Dorma” at Old Trafford before Manchester United’s final Premier League game of the season. He quickly released his platinum debut album ‘The Voice’, which made him the first British male to simultaneously occupy the number one spot in the UK and the US charts. This album would also win him two Classical Brit Awards. His meteoric rise continued in 2002 as he opened the Commonwealth games in front of a televised audience of one billion people. His success continued as he released a further five number one albums before embarking on a sell-out UK tour and a tour in Japan in 2007 after battling a brain tumour.
In 2008 he beat a second brain tumour and returned with another sell-out tour, an appearance as a judge on BBC show ‘The last choir standing’ and his top ten bestselling Autobiography ‘Finding My Voice’. His popular albums have continued to be released with his most recent ‘20’ reaching number 10 in the UK charts, while releases alongside Aled Jones ‘In Harmony’ and ‘Back In Harmony’ reached as high as eighth and seventh respectively. Alongside those, he has continued to tour the UK to sell-out crowds and performed at the Queen’s Coronation Gala Festival in 2013. He also appeared in the 2020 series of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
As well as his sell our tours, Russell performs at private gatherings and events. His wide range of song choices, powerful vocals and strong stage presence make him a popular choice with a wide range of audiences, and he will leave everyone in attendance entertained.
