Rodney Marsh is a British football speaker and former player. Best known for his career at London teams, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers, he has become a prolific after dinner speaker and media star since his retirement from professional sports. Beginning his career in the First Division team a Fulham, he proved himself as a rising star in his debut game, by scoring the winning goal. After a serious head injury, in the latter half of the 1963 season, Marsh faced a long recovery, and potentially an end to his career. Moving to Queen Park Ranger’s in 1966, Marsh spent eight years at the club, helping them move from Third Division to second. A brief stint at Manchester City and then with American team the Tampa Bay Rowdies saw him through to retirement. Marsh retired from playing professional football in the late 1970’s, after a successful club and national career, gaining a total of nine caps for his country. Moved into coaching, Marsh was successful as a coach for his previous team the Rowdies as well as other American teams; New York United and Carolina Lightenin’. His talents on the field enabled him to lead the next generation of players.
Since leaving the coaching profession in 1986 Marsh has gone on to work as a media pundit and football speaker for a number of high profile broadcasters. More recently Rodney Marsh will be remembered for his eleven year long career as the commentator and football speaker for the Sky Sports series ‘Soccer Saturday’. Marsh is known for his loud personality and the amiable banter he shared with fans, fellow sports speakers and pundits. In particular, he will be remembered for his antics during the 1999/2000 season when he bet Bradford City fans that if they avoided relegation he would shave his head! Since leaving Sky Sports Rodney continues to work as a sports speaker at relevant events, but he has also built a name for himself as a reality TV star. He has appeared on a number of reality TV series including I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and Celebrity Come Dine With Me.
