Sir Richard Moore

Richard Moore is one of the most influential leaders of the modern era, known as the former Chief of the UK's Secret Intelligence Service, MI6. Drawing on over four decades of international intelligence and diplomacy experience, he is an expert throughout the ever-changing worlds of security and cybersecurity. A sought-after keynote speaker, he shares his extraordinary experiences from the secret world, bringing a uniquely human perspective. After education at Oxford University, Harvard and Stanford, Richard's career in intelligence began in 1987 when he was recruited as an MI6 intelligence officer. He served in key positions in Turkey, Vietnam, Pakistan and Malaysia, along with working as a London Desk Officer for Iran. Becoming a British Ambassador to Turkey for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2014, he developed his deep diplomatic expertise. Richard further served as a UK Deputy National Security Adviser at the Cabinet Office before developing his career to serve as the UK Political Director at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where he led the Iran nuclear negotiations. 

In 2020, Richard began his tenure as Britain's top spy, where he led the service through an evolving landscape from war in Europe and the Middle East to the rise of artificial intelligence. His continuous influence reshaped how the organisation engaged with the public as he became the first serving Chief to provide live television and radio interviews and to use the platform 'X' to share the service's missions and values. Working closely with international partners such as CIA Director Bill Burns during the Biden Administration, his leadership combines operational discretion with strategic openness, allowing the Secret Service to modernise whilst ensuring the nation is safeguarded. 

After leaving the MI6 in 2025, Richard continues to influence audiences across the globe with his keynote speeches, bringing insights from the heart of intelligence and diplomacy to deliver lessons that resonate. Currently serving as the Chair of the Kennedy Memorial Trust, he uses his global experience to highlight the importance of building trust throughout leadership, geopolitical risk and strategic decision-making. His leading career has not gone unrecognised, with him being honoured with a Knighthood in The King's Birthday Honours 2023 list for his services to national security.
