Panos Varangis is an expert in agricultural business, with a PHD in Economics from Columbia University, New York. From 1987 to 2004, Panos’ career spanned across various departments within the World Bank, including International Commodities Division, the International Trade Division, the Bank’s Research Department and the Agricultural and Rural Development Department; Panos specialised in the global program on commodity risk management.
Ending in 2009, Panos worked as the Deputy CEO of the Agricultural Bank of Greece. After this, he provided financial advice with IFC, guiding financial institutions to navigate SMEs, agribusinesses, and farmers. At present Panos is the Global Lead for agricultural finance and insurance at the World Bank Group.
