His commitment throughout his career has been recognised with election as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and he was also appointed CBE from the Queen in recognition of his Services to Employee Rights. He has also been bestowed with honorary degrees from universities such as Warwick, Brighton and Northampton.
