Pankaj Ghemawat is an Indian professor, speaker, author, economist and global strategist, famed for his work in the field of globalization. Over the course of his prominent, influential career, Pankaj greatly moulded the technology landscape through his creation of the DHL Global Connectedness Index and the CAGE Distance Framework. Joining Harvard College at the astonishing age of 16, going on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics. Pankaj was then accepted into Harvard Business School's PhD in Business Economics course when he was, graduating three years later.
Continuing his advancement with Harvard Business School, Pankaj served on the faculty were he became the youngest person ever appointed a full professorship. Since 2006, Pankaj has been the Professor of Global Strategy at IESE Business School in Barcelona, as well as the Global Professor of Management and Strategy and Director of the Center for the Globalization of Education and Management at the Stern School of Business at New York University.
Over the course of his career, Pankaj has dedicated his life to studying globalization to find out how it affects national economies. Since formulating his ideology, he believes that as globalization is expanding after a steep drop during the world financial crisis, it is less widespread and is growing more slowly than widely believed and that countries with greater global connectedness tend to grow faster than those with less connectedness. In 2011, he founded the DHL Global Connectedness Index, which, leading on from his research, highlights the importance of hard data to measure the global connectedness of countries around the world.
As a testament to his influential career, Pankaj has received numerous awards, including the McKinsey Award for the best article published in Harvard Business Review and as an Elected Fellow of the Academy of International Business, from 2006-2007. Within the next year, Pankaj was awarded the Irwin Award for the Educator of the Year from the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy of Management, IESE-Fundación BBVA Economics for Management Prize and was an Elected Fellow of the Strategic Management Society, in 2008.
