The face of English netball, Pamela Cookey has earned her place in the country's majestic sporting history. In an eleven-year netball career from 2004 to the present day, she has played for and captained some of the games best-known teams, as well as her country. Since hanging up her shoes as a top-class goal shooter, she has gone on to become a prominent presenter and pundit for broadcasting giants, BBC and Sky Sports. In addition, she is well-received as a motivational speaker, expertly dispensing her experiences to private and corporate audiences.
Focussing on a range of themes, Pamela is an iconic sportswoman who summarises the traits of great athletes. She has overcome injury and adversity throughout her career, not least as a 31-year-old when Pamela showcased her trademark tenacity to recover from missing the Commonwealth Games in 2014 to reach a century of international caps in 2015.
A remarkable sporting CV has seen Pamela play for Team Bath and Auckland-based outfit, Northern Mystics, alongside her integral role in the England team. She played a key role in two titles for Team Bath in 2005-06 and 2008-09, before she signed for Northern Mystics. Pamela was first thrust into the England National Netball Team for the 2002 Commonwealth Games as a seventeen-year-old but unfortunately suffered a knee injury ahead of it. In 2004 she made her debut in the senior team, kickstarting a fruitful career with her home nation.
The 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne yielded her first bronze medal as she helped to grow awareness for the game. A second bronze medal followed four years later when the England Team again graced the podium at the Delhi Commonwealth Games. That year she also helped the team to a silver medal at the 2010 World Netball Series in Liverpool, before winning the competition the following year in 2011. Pamela created history in the Vitality Netball Super League by becoming the only player ever to have won seven league titles.
After ending her playing career in 2016, she stayed in the fold, becoming Director of Netball for the Severn Stars Franchise. She also takes time to speak to school, university groups and corporate audiences, discussing what made her an international success.
