Best known for playing Zainab Masood in BBC's EastEnders, Nina Wadia is an award-winning Indian-born British actress. Recognised also for her roles in BBC hit sketch show Goodness Gracious Me along with playing Mrs Hussein in the Open All Hours spin off Still Open All Hours. Nina's career kicked off with her various roles in Goodness Gracious Me, seeing her play characters such as Mrs 'I can make it at home for nothing' and one half of The Competitive Mothers'. She then went on to work alongside Jasper Carrott and Natalia Kills in the sitcom All About Me.
She took over the role of Rupinder from former Goodness Gracious Me co-star, Meera Syal. 2007 saw Nina cast for her career highlight role in EastEnders, she was a member of the cast up until 8th February 2013. Nina has appeared across the screen for multiple comedies including The Vicar of Dibley and dramatic roles such as Holby City, Doctors and White Teeth to name a few. From 2005 to 2006 Nina became a regular panellist on the widely watched ITV Loose Women and in 2008 appeared as Anwar Kharral's mother in the extremely popular E4 teen drama Skins. Nina is a highly regarded actress who has acquired many awards throughout her career from the Best Comedy Performance at the 2009 British Soap Awards.
At the same awards she also won Best Onscreen Partnership for her relationship with Nitan Ganatra. 2004 saw her win the Chairman's Award at the Asian Women awards and the Outstanding Achievement in Television Award at The Asian Award in 2013. Nina makes for an excellent event host and after dinner speaker with her naturally funny and engaging presence. She shares stories from her life and career and particularly entertains audiences with examples of the public’s tendency to think soap characters are real. With her bubbly personality and confident approach Nina makes a memorable addition to any event.
