Known as one of the best spin bowlers in England, Monty Panesar is the legendary English cricketer. Playing his first test match in 2006 against India and debuting for England in 2007, Monty's impressive career has seen him play in several international games. Monty's headlining performance in cricket throughout his career combined with his charismatic personality makes him a highly regarded cricket speaker on the after dinner circuit. Although being described by former England head coach, Duncan Fletcher, as 'the best finger spinner in the world' upon initial selection into the England team Monty was widely perceived as being an inept batsman and fielder.
Consequently Monty was replaced by Graeme Swann and lost his place in the England test team resulting in him losing his central contract. Monty worked incredibly hard while with Sussex County Club and managed to improve and perfect his form and subsequently he was recalled for the 2010-11 Ashes series.
Nick named 'the beard to be feared' following his elite level bowling and his ability to take sixty nine wickets in the 2011 county season, Monty earned himself a recall for the series against Pakistan in the UAE. This was his first Test appearance in over two and a half years and his performance in the second Test saw him become the first English spinner to take ten wickets in a match since Phil Tufnell. In 2012 Monty brought skills to the field for three Test matches in India before stepping in for Graeme Swann as lead spinner in the England tour of New Zealand.
Throughout his time in this role he managed five wickets costing seventy runs each. Montys career as a top bowler has seen him awarded in 2001 as The Most Promising Young Player for the NBC Denis Compton Award. Named Wisden Cricketer of the Year for his excellent efforts and contributions to the previous season and Monty also picked up Beard of the Year 2006 award by the Beard Liberation Front. Monty makes for an excellent cricket speaker who can give insights into the past and present of cricket along with the skills and attributes he has acquired to make it to the elite level he achieved. From overcoming adversity, hard work and determination to maximising success and dealing with stress Monty can also discuss mental illness with in sport.
