Mike Mullane

Former NASA astronaut, Mike Mullane, is a leading authority on space, engineering and science. Living life on the edge has led Mike to complete a number of special missions on behalf of NASA, live aboard space shuttles and even summit Mt Kilimanjaro. Now working as a professional speaker, Mike Mullane is well regarded on the circuit for his educational and entertaining speeches on key topics like teamwork and adventure. As an astronaut, Mike was selected by NASA in 1978 and has taken part in a total of three space shuttle missions throughout his career. Making his debut space mission in 1984 on board the STS-41-D, Mike was tasked with overseeing the successful deployment of satellites in the seven day mission.

Off the back of the success of his first mission, Mike again entered space as a specialist on the Orbiter Atlantis on two occasions, each time responsible for payload of the Department of Defence. Racking up a total of three hundred and fifty six hours in space, Mike has an infinite amount of exhilarating and inspiring stories to tell about his time spent, out of this world. Prior to becoming an astronaut, Mike completed a degree in Military Engineering at the United States Military Academy and achieved his Masters in Aeronautical Engineering, giving him the foundations for his career.

With his training behind him, Mike joined the military as a Weapon Systems Operator on the RF-4C where he completed one hundred and thirty four combat missions in Vietnam before becoming a flight test weapon operator. For his services to space and his country, Mike Mullane has received much recognition throughout his career.

From the Meritorious Service Medal to the Vietnam Campaign Medal, it is evident the influence Mike had in the military. After completing ground breaking space missions, Mike was further recognised with the NASA Space Flight Medal and inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame, a huge achievement for an outstanding career. Since retiring from the space and sky, Mike Mullane has become an author, mountaineer and professional speaker.
