Former Irish National Hunt jockey, Mick Fitzgerald is now taking from his fifteen years worth of experience as a horse racer to become an excellent after dinner speaker who specialises in topics including mental resilience, drive, determination and performing under pressure. One of the most regarded riders of his time, Mick often discusses his incredible stint as a top tier rider as well as relating his skill set to corporate and school organisations as well as sporting audiences. A spark that struck whilst riding on a pony racing circuit, Fitzgerald began riding for a local flat trainer before moving to Curragh where he rode out for John Hayden. His debut win came in 1988 at Ludlow before becoming a regular winner in the 1991/92 National Hunt season and developing a partnership with Ray Callow’s Duncan Idaho.
Whilst being trained under the legendary Nicky Henderson, Mick managed to win competitions including the Grand National, the 1996 Rough Quest and the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1999. The pinnacle of his career saw him become the leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival on two consecutive years before sustaining two career-threatening injuries that forced him into retirement.
Since hanging up his boots, Fitzgerald has become a household name within presenting and commentary. Regularly offering his analysis to many flat and National Hunt races, he has appeared on Channel 4’s At The Races as well as coverage for ITV in 2017. Outside of his newfound media career, Mick is now also offering advice at Nicky Henderson’s stables and the British Racing School for ambitious jockeys. An iconic horse rider, Mick Fitzgerald has an abundance of insightful career anecdotes in which he enjoys reflecting on as an after dinner speaker. A determined and incredibly driven sportsman can influence audiences of all sizes to become more productive and ambitious with their working style. Also suited to become an event host, Mick’s charismatic and engaging speaking style can ensure that audiences experience a smooth event whilst also being entertained with his wit and charm.
