Hayley Turner OBE is the UK's most successful female jockey. With over 900 career wins, Hayley is widely considered to be the first woman to achieve a sustained, day-in, day-out, successful career as a professional jockey in the UK. Being a true inspiration to the younger generation, her success has seen an enormous increase in the number of female apprentice jockeys riding in the UK. Turner became the first woman to ride 100 UK flat race winners during the calendar year when she won on Multiovermaurice at Wolverhampton in December of 2008. Turner rode in over 900 races in the UK in 2008 - one of just five riders to achieve the milestone that year. In August of 2015, Turner announced her retirement from riding and at the end of the season and became a regular contributor to ITV racing before coming out of retirement in 2018.
Working for plenty of trainers throughout her career, Turner is best known for her ongoing association with Newmarket-based Derby-winning trainer, Michael Bell, with whom she apprenticed in 2005 when she won the Champion Apprentice title. Achieving joint Champion Apprentice with Saleem Golam, Turner achieved 44 wins in 2005. Going from success to success, Turner silenced the doubters by bucking the trend of Champion Apprentices subsequently struggling with their careers.
Having her career interrupted by injury in 2009, Hayley ended the year on 60 winners, this being her second-highest figure despite missing much of the season. Following her story and career at this point, she achieved the Most Inspirational Sportswoman Award in 2011. On 2 June 2012, she became the second female jockey in history to ride in the Epsom Derby on Cavaliero and, most significantly, she won the Beverly D. Stakes in America, becoming the first UK-based woman to ride an International Group One winner. Turner was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2016 Birthday Honours for services to horse racing and is expected to enjoy an equally successful career as she did on the racecourse when taking up her punditry and analysis role. As of 2018, Hayley has come out of retirement and has ridden multiple winners at Royal Ascot since.

"Everything went well yesterday and Hayley was great company and very informative. She has a great personality and took some of my guests behind the scenes and down to see the start of one of the races. Hayley also spoke about her career in racing and in particular the difficulties for her in a male-dominated sport and also spoke about the occasions that she had met Her Majesty, including showing us her OBE." - Harvey Sharpstone, Omni Security
