Alongside his part-time baking passions, Matty has developed an admirable career as a PE and Science teacher at Hampton College, whilst also playing football for Stanground Sports. With his expertise spanning a wide range of areas, Matty is now highly sought-after to attend a wide range of events internationally.

Before appearing on our television screens, Matty developed a respected career as a PE and Science teacher at Hampton College. Alongside this, he is also a football player for Stanground Sports. For many years, Matty has also been a ‘secret baker’ with only his family and fiancé knowing about his passion for all things baking. Having been influenced by his grandmother's creativity, and the teddy bear cake she created for his fourth birthday, Matty aims to meet the same level of impressiveness with everything he bakes. With his style being recognised as ‘rustic but neat’, he has become one of the most popular bakers after deciding to take part in The Great British Bake of 2023.

Despite his keen passion for baking, it was Matty’s fiancé Lara who signed him up for the 2023 series of The Great British Bake Off. Initially doubting his abilities, he gradually grew more confident during his time on the show and was awarded Star Baker for the first time in Party Week. Becoming a fan-favourite with audiences across the UK, Matty was winning challenge after challenge each week, and in the final, he was crowned the 2023 Bake Off winner.
