Matt Perry has a colourful career that stems from resilience, adaptability, and good, old-fashioned grit. Founder of Transition 15 and High Performance Lead at Pollinate International, he’s a former rugby icon who now specialises in enlightening audiences on the process of transition, and how to navigate it smoothly. Though he may have suffered an injury that brought his playing career to a close, Matt has never let adversity stand in his way. The stories he shares through his keynote speeches reflect the rugby legend’s resilience, and how he’s overcome every obstacle to maintain his momentum in the sporting and sustainable business landscapes.
Making his debut at 18 years of age, Matt Perry joined Bath Rugby in 1995, and went on to perform to such an exceptional level that he was onboarded by England only two years later. By the age of 23, he became England’s most capped Full Back in the 1999 World Cup, and it wasn’t long before he’d play in the Lion’s tour to Australia – during which he kicked off all three tests at full-back. Matt quickly became an icon, playing for the notable teams such as the Barbarians and the British & Irish Lions and cementing his place as an integral part of multiple world-class teams. Across his rugby career, Matt mastered the art of seamless transition, and it’s a skill that he’s determined to share with others.
Despite having to retire from rugby following a particularly nasty injury, Matt hit the ground running and began translating his sporting experience into tangible business strategies. Initially, he trained as a change management executive coach, developing detailed performance coaching programmes for the likes of Visa Europe, Marks and Spencer, and Nationwide. Combining what he’d learned from his rugby days with his intrinsic understanding of the Fintech industry, Matt has managed to perfect the art of navigating high-performance business environments just as effortlessly as those he experienced in sport.
This is what ultimately led to Matt founding Transition 15 in 2015. Compiling his diverse skillset, he created a specialised service that allows him to go from stage to stage, delivering keynote talks that touch upon change, transition, and adjustment. Whether he’s speaking on his personal move from sports to business ownership or deconstructing the complexities of leadership and achieving peak performance, Matt Perry is an incredible speaker who has made business and sport two sides of the same coin.
