Amongst the most successful British swimmers of all time, Mark Foster specialised in short course swimming, most notably the butterfly and freestyle over 50 meters. Now retired, the British Swimmer is spending his time fulfilling media commitments and specialising as an Olympic after-dinner speaker. Foster became the fastest swimmer in the country at only 15 years old, this kickstarted his fruitful and successful career. First selected for the British team in 1985, Foster won his first medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games where he claimed Bronze in the 50m freestyle.
He went on to also be successful at the World and European Championships painting out an illustrious career before announcing his retirement in 2006. After only a short period, Foster courageously came out of retirement in the bid to achieve his lifetime goal of winning an Olympic medal at the 2008 Beijing Games. Reuniting with Team GB, Mark won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle at the 2008 FINA Short Course World Championships. He also qualified to represent Great Britain at the same distance in the Olympics but sadly failed to qualify for the semi-finals finishing almost two-tenths of a second outside of the top 16.
Outside of his sporting career, Mark is also a patron for a multitude of charities, he is an avid fundraiser and ambassador using his platform as a sports icon and Olympic speaker to raise both awareness and money for charities that are close to his heart. He has also appeared on a wide range of television shows, including Strictly Come Dancing and has continued to be part of the BBCs Sports coverage as a commentator and analyst. He is also openly gay, acting as a passionate advocate for the LGBT+ community- supporting charities such as Stonewall and the Terrence Higgins Trust. Most recently, Mark was a BBC commentator for swimming events at the Paris 2024 Olympics – presenting alongside host Clare Balding and former Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington.
He is also a popular choice to invite to swimming meets and events. Mark Foster is an incredible sports speaker who can provide motivational and inspirational speeches to events and conferences. Having appeared at five Olympic Games and five Commonwealth Games, Mark Foster is one of the most consistently prolific swimmers Britain has produced in recent years. We caught up with Mark to hear his thoughts on Team GB's performance at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, in our exclusive interview.

"Mark was a speaker at Leicester Tigers for a game that we played against London Welsh. With over 300 people in the room, Mark used different techniques to keep everyone engaged and interested in what he was saying. With mostly business men and sports fans in the room Mark was able to conduct himself in a manner that suited both parties and children. Mark’s experience in life after sport was extremely interesting and our 1st team players took this in as something they need to start thinking about as well. The interactivity that Mark had with our guests was exceptional and spent over an hour signing autographs and having photos and it was a pleasure to host him and have him as our guest speaker." - Emily, Leicester Tigers

"Just want to say a huge thank you for all of your help with securing Mark Foster as guest speaker at our annual prize giving. Mark was truly fantastic. His speech was excellent, a motivational message for students, entertaining and interesting for parents and engaging for the whole audience. We received so many positive comments. He took the time to speak to all 135 students by name and his congratulations to them were warm and personal. He made it a very special occasion for the students, parents , staff and invited guests. He willingly stayed for what seemed like ages while photographs were taken and his patience delighted everyone. It was a great success and so we wish to extend our thanks to Mark. What a lovely, genuine person he is and he made an excellent role model for the children. His assembly was pitched just right and was very motivational and fitted perfectly with our school ethos around resilience and having a growth mindset. The children learned so much and are now really looking forward to the upcoming Olympics." - Kirsty, Gorse Hill Primary School

"I’d like to thank Mark for his massive contribution to our event. He was a total hit with the audience and is scoring 10/10 in our post event survey! From my perspective, he encapsulated the brief perfectly and got all the messages I needed out to the team in a really compelling but down to earth way. His style was relaxed but he had everyone hooked from the start, right through to the end. The Q&A was a real highlight and I really appreciate him addressing the many questions from the floor in such an encouraging way. Inspirational! Mark was open, warm, friendly and extremely polite to everyone he met on the night and very accommodating to the many ‘selfie’ requests. Genuinely a lovely human being! Everyone was still talking about Mark the next day which shows the deep impact he had on the team and I’m sure this will encourage them to test themselves ‘beyond limits’ in the future."- Nathalie, BT & EE
"Once again, our greatest thanks for your help in lining Mark up for our event. He was a huge success and such a great guy." - Jonathan, Lazard
"Thanks for the email. All went well on Thursday thank you. We were very impressed with Mark and his talk. The content was pitched well and Mark accommodated questioning and took time for photos etc at the end which went down very well with delegates. Thank you to you and other staff at Champions. The service we received was very good which made the whole process very easy to navigate. Thank you!" - Oli, Bramble Infant School & Nursery
"I just wanted to drop you a brief line about our evening with Mark. You were absolutely right to recommend him to us and thank you for that. It was a great evening enjoyed by everyone who turned up and who have taken great delight in regaling all of those members who didn’t, with how good it was. His talk was just right for the guests as proven by the quantity of questions asked in the time after he had finished speaking—they would have gone on for far longer if we hadn’t put a stop to it! His delivery is so casual which went down really well with the audience. Apparently the golf club has rarely if ever, attracted as many guests to any fee paying function as far back as anyone can remember. You have set the bar very high for the next time I call you up!!" - Paul, Buckingham Golf Club
