Maria Luciana Axente is an award winning AI ethics and policy expert. Former Head of Public Policy and Ethics at PwC, Maria has dedicated her career to the ethical development of AI technologies. From corporate policy to Government and NATO advisory roles, Maria is a trusted voice in AI technologies and ethics. Having completed the Artificial Intelligence Programme at the University of Oxford her expertise is firmly grounded in both academic and industry experience.
Maria began her career as an entrepreneur, founding and managing a luxury concept store in Bucharest while being a Managing Partner at Boom Media, supporting clients with business and digital transformation. Maria continued to work as a digital transformation consultant while she got her MBA from the University of Westminster in Strategy, Corporate Governance and Ethics, and then became the Digital Transformation Lead at Cognizant.
In 2014 Maria started working at PwC as their Consulting Engagement Manager, where her work focused on digital and AI strategy. She went on to become Responsible AI and AI for Good Lead, where she co-authored PwC’s award winning Responsibility AI toolkit, before becoming Head of AI Public Policy and Ethics. An RSA Felow, Maria spent four years as an Advisory Board Member for the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence, which was established to examine the challenges and opportunities of the growth and adoption of AI. She is also a current member of the NATO Advisory Group on Emerging and Disruptive Technologies
