Lucinda Russell

Lucinda Russell OBE is a leading UK racehorse trainer who has trained two Grand National Winners, Corach Rambler who won in 2023 and One for Arthur who won in 2017. Alongside her passion for horses, Lucinda’s family owns Edinburgh Gin where she spent many years honing her business skills before entering the horse racing scene. In both of her ventures, Lucinda noticed one common trait: a lack of women in business. She has since become an advocate for women in business and shares her career in her speeches.

Although she did not grow up in a horsey family, Lucinda always loved the beautiful creatures and started leading ponies on the beach giving pony rides. Her parents were always supportive of her passion for horses and drove her to Pony Club rallies and days out hunting. Lucinda first began her competitive career eventing and show jumping, and rode in a total of three point-to-point races. Lucinda only got involved in racehorse training by chance after one of the owners of a point-to-point horse she trained asked her to get a full training license. The rest, they say, was history.

Lucinda started her racehorse training career from nothing, building her racing business from the ground up. She now trains her horses near Edinburgh and has become a highly sought-after speaker discussing her career path to the top of racing. As one of the very few women in the sport, Lucinda also discusses the culture within the sport and the challenges facing the racing business. Over her career, Lucinda has trained over 700 winners, including 11 graded winners at prestigious courses such as Cheltenham and Aintree racecourses. Some of the most famous horses she has trained include: Ahoy Senor, Brindisi Breeze and Mighty Thunder to name a few. In 2018 Lucinda was appointed an OBE for her services to horse racing.
