A trained journalist Theroux shot to fame after he worked as the television presenter for his first show Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends which ran from 1998 until 2000. The series saw Theroux living with some of the most bizarre and dangerous subcultural groups in America for a weekend. The Weird Weekend series saw Theroux meeting survivalists, black nationalists, white supremacists and even porn stars. The popularity and unusual format of the show lead directly to the production of Louis’ second series, When Louis Met, where he interviewed famous and often infamous celebrities such as Jimmy Savile, Max Clifford and the Hamilton’s. Another great success Louis Theroux’s work as a TV presenter was recognised by the British Academy for Film and Television, who awarded him a Richard Dimbleby Award for Best Presenter two years running.
Louis Theroux then moved to the BBC where he remains producing feature length documentaries in which he continues to act as the TV presenter. These specials have addressed similar themes to that of his earlier work, but take a dedicated and more in depth approach to their subjects. His investigation into the Florida and Californian prison system and child psychiatry, as well as his film America’s Most Hated Family received international acclaim from the press and media.
During his career as a television and radio presenter Louis Theroux has explored some of the most controversial topics and dangerous situations in the world, he has raised public awareness into the struggle of Jewish people in Palestine, provided an insight into the life of a criminal on death row and offered insight into a variety of fringe cultures and alternative ways of life. He has published numerous books that detail his experience as a television and radio presenter and offer readers a more personal insight into his feelings about the world many of us do not see. Theroux has won a number of awards for his work as a TV presenter and investigative journalist, including two Royal Television Society Awards, three BAFTA’s and an Emmy.
Knowledgeable, experienced and insightful, Louis Theroux is unlike any other TV presenter; his courage and dedication have secured some of the most fascinating journalistic broadcasts of the last fifteen years, and his popularity seems ever-increasing. Champions Speakers are honoured to be an official booking agent for Louis Theroux, taking pride in putting him forward to clients who seek an insightful and engaging event host.
