Lexie Bean is a renowned multimedia artist, activist, author and filmmaker, passionate about creating honest and complex trans narratives through film, writing and performance. Lexie began a career in storytelling back in 2012, and has since written for the likes of The New York Times, The Feminist Wire, Teen Vogue and Huffington Post to name but a few publications. A Jerome Hill Artist Fellow, Lexie’s work focuses on transgender survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse, for which they have received accolades from the founder of The Trevor Project. Back in 2012, Lexie began a career in storytelling, using multimedia to share narratives on bodies, cyclical violence and queer identity. As a talented filmmaker, Lexie has produced the shorts Full, Trans Boy Remember and The Ship We Built, featured in film festivals across the globe. Currently, Lexie is working on pre-production for a feature-length documentary titled What Will I become?, in which three stories of trans boys who died due to suicide are told, raising awareness of the suppression and isolation that is caused by binary masculinity. Lexie’s poems, essays, books and short films have been shared across the globe, including at venues such as The Strand in NYC. Lexie also commits time to work with a range of non-profit organisations, transition homes and rehab centres, such as Black & Pink, Slutwalk Johannesburg and RAINN.
