Leslie’s career began with a strong academic foundation, earning a BA from Wesleyan University, followed by an MSc with distinction from the London School of Economics and a PhD from Columbia University. Her early professional roles included working at the Congressional Research Service and the Asia Bureau of USAID, where she honed her expertise in foreign affairs and development. Leslie transitioned into academia, joining Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service before moving to the UK, where she became part of the faculty at SOAS University of London, eventually achieving the rank of Professor of International Relations in 2023.
