LaRoyce Hawkins is an American actor, comedian, speaker, and musician. Best known for his role in the popular NBC police drama Chicago P.D. where he plays Officer Kevin Atwater. Over the course of his career, LaRoyce has had a multitude of different roles and positions. He now uses these experiences in his role as a speaker, often speaking on topics such as diversity, imagination, and fatherhood. LaRoyce is highly sought after as a speaker due to his diverse background and inspiring stories.
After attending Illinois State University on a full tuition scholarship and majoring in theatre arts, LaRoyce landed his first big film role in The Express: The Ernie Davis Story. Following this, his early television career continued through roles on HBO’s Ballers, TBS’ Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, and ABC’s Detroit 1-8-7. All before he secured his breakthrough role as Officer Kevin Atwater on Chicago P.D. The show has reached its 11th season, and LaRoyce’s character often appears on the crossover show, Chicago Fire. He continues to portray Officer Kevin Atwater through the new seasons of Chicago P.D. and has also appeared on Chicago Med, another spin-off.
For his outstanding role in this series, LaRoyce received a NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a drama series. Some more recent roles of his include in the BET+ film North of the 10, and HBO Max’s comedy series, South Side. Aside from his acting career, LaRoyce is actively involved in charity work. He is currently the Celebrity Kettle Ambassador for the Salvation Army, and previously won an Emmy for his publicity campaign. Also partnered with youth empowerment event, We Day and Covenant House, LaRoyce has truly established himself as a credit to society. Having also launched his own brand Be Powerful, LaRoyce uses the proceeds to go towards nonprofits working within the Harvey community.
