Dr Kevin Ahmaad Jenkins has forged a renowned reputation for his expertise in diversity, equity, inclusion and healthcare. Currently working as a Core Investigator and Health Scientist at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, Kevin researches into cognitive decline and chronic kidney disease. Amongst his work in the healthcare sector, Kevin has also worked as an entertainer and journalist, and is now booked as a keynote speaker and workshop leader for corporate clients. Kevin first began his working career as a columnist for The Herald Sun, later going on to become a Lottery Host for the North Carolina Educational Lottery. He then went on to become an On-Field Announcer for the Durham Bulls Baseball Club, spending six years interviewing celebrities and hosting games. From 2009 to 2015, Kevin completed a PhD in Sociology & Criminology Law, during which he worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Grant Manager at the University of Florida. Kevin has also worked as a Lecturer and Vice-Provost Postdoctoral Fellow of the University of Pennsylvania, lecturing in the School of Social Policy and Practice.
Growing up, Kevin became aware of the invisible barriers that racism posed, also witnessing his mother be mistreated and carelessly diagnosed with a respiratory condition when she was suffering from kidney failure. Channeling his passions into research, Kevin dedicates his time to looking at racism, race and equity and how difficult conversations can be held around such topics. Whether his audiences are unbothered, unaware or knowledgeable on racism, Kevin shares both his own life stories and evidence-based factual strategies to drive diversity, inclusion and equity within the workplace. Also a two-times award-winning national journalist, Kevin is on a mission to eliminate racial health disparities.
