Katy Griffin is a leading mental health expert, who has enjoyed a successful career as a mental health nurse and practitioner - currently working as a Clinical Lead for Primary Mental Health in Cornwall. Devoted to understanding mental health and illness, Katy is also the Founder of Thera-Sea – a company dedicated to taking an educational approach to preventing mental health difficulties through a variety of workshops, retreats and wellbeing days. With over a decade of experience in mental health, both through her personal experience and expertise as a clinical practitioner, Katy is now hired as a popular mental health keynote speaker to help others advance their awareness of mental health and those who are suffering around them.
Having graduated from the University of Chester with a Bachelor of Nursing in Mental Health Nursing, Katy has worked a successful career dedicated to helping people with their mental health, beginning her decorated career working as a Mental Health Worker for The Priory. Providing support to young people with social, emotional and behavioural challenges, Katy began to develop her knowledge of rehabilitation and therapeutic settings. Today, Katy is the Founder of Thera-Sea, a company that is dedicated to providing specialist workshops and retreats that help people to prioritise their wellbeing and draw on the positive influence of nature and nutrition – with an educational twist.
Before dedicating her time to Thera-Sea, Katy was a talented Mental Health Worker and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. During her time working for the NHS, Katy continued to build her expertise as a specialist on mental health, working with all kinds of people from children to adults and families. Having experienced her father's transition from a loving family man to a person who struggled with chronic alcoholism, Katy knows first-hand the struggles of mental illness, one of the main motivating factors that inspired her to follow a career as a mental health specialist. Having also been a Mental Health Specialist for Falmouth University, Katy now dedicates her time to Thera-Sea and understanding the power of positive behaviours on health and wellbeing.
When she is not found in the wilderness swimming, paddleboarding, foraging or teaching survival skills, Katy can be found sharing her wisdom as a powerful mental health keynote speaker. Tackling the rise of degenerative diseases and mental illness, Katy emphasises the detrimental impact stress and unhealthy lifestyles can have on mental health. Qualified in cognitive behavioural therapy, cognitive analytical therapy, dialectal behavioural therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy, Katy’s expertise in mental health and illness is second to none. "A lot of wisdom packed into 1 day. If patients and NHS staff had access to such a day it would make a huge impact if they were able to incorporate some of the lessons. This should be high on the priority list of any health trust who care for its staff and want to prevent burnout"
