Kate Bellingham

Kate Bellingham worked her way through the broadcasting ranks at the BBC, having begun as a trainee audio engineer in the mid 1980s. After being selected to co-host the annual Faraday Lecture sponsored by the Institution of Electrical Engineers, which saw her present a series of live shows to students in the UK, she was selected to present for TV show, Techno. Soon after, she was rewarded for her engaging style and extensive knowledge when she took the role of presenting for live show, Tomorrow's World between 1990 and 1994. Further roles were soon to follow, as Kate would host The Acid Test on BBC Radio 5Live, as well as BBC School Radio.

Kate would present children's television show, The Big Bang on ITV between 1996-2004 and present Working in Engineering on BBC Two in 1999. Since then she has become actively involved in the promotion of STEM, becoming the National STEM Careers Coordinator. She has presented awards that include the Talent 2030 National Engineering Competition for Girls in 2015, The Big Bang Fair in 2012 and the British Engineering Excellence Awards.

Kate has consistently spoken about the challenge of introducing more women into the STEM workforce, promoting The Gender Agenda in STEM. She has penned columns for countless publications, including Future Morph, National STEM Centre, WISE and IET, as well as appeared as a keynote speaker at events across Europe. This has included chairing the Association of University Engineers Annual Conference at Brunel University, speaking at the Technology For Change Conference in Hull, the Winchester Science Festival Family Day and the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) event in the House of Lords. Since 2020, Kate has been pursuing a part-time PhD, focusing on engineering education.

She has also been called upon to moderate conferences including the Microsoft #MakeWhatsNext Girlz in Tech in Venice. She has hosted the College and University Business Officers (CUBO) Annual Conference, Brighton and appeared as a panellist at a Cheltenham Science Festival talk entitled, FutureTech: The Best and Worst of All Time. She sets out one of her many visions on her website, where she says: "It is my dream for engineering that it is seen as the career of choice for talented young people who want to make a positive impact on the world – addressing fundamental challenges of health, quality of life, and sustainability." A forward-thinking and entertaining keynote speaker, moderator and host, there are few in STEM as well-received as Kate Bellingham.
