Julie Miller is transgender, but for most of her life, and like many trans people, she hid her true gender identity behind a facade of stereotypical manliness, for fear of abuse, ridicule and victimisation. But with increasing mental health issues, including suicidal ideations, she now presents her gender as she feels most comfortable, as a gender fluid trans woman.
A former Army Officer with a 25-year career, Julie now dedicates her life to supporting trans people and is on the front line of the so-called “trans culture wars”.
Julie’s main forte is her transgender awareness presentations. Whilst Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) training focuses on “how” employers can be inclusive, for example updating management policies and changing workplace language and infrastructure, Julie’s unique selling point is she explains “why” transpeople should be accepted and respected.
Julie delivers a flamboyant fusion of education and performance. She analyses up-to-date academic books and scientific papers on the history, science, culture and law surrounding trans lives and with her outstanding speaking skills, translates and interprets the material into a thought-provoking and light-hearted power point presentation that appeals to even those who do not have a natural interest in the subject. She breaks away from the formal slides to deliver with oratorial panache a “Grand Opening Statement”, “Impassioned Speech” and “Emotional Outburst”, and concludes the presentation by focusing on the Holy Grail of all trans people, the pursuit and preservation of good mental health.
