Juergen Maier is an industrialist, Co-Founder of vocL, Chair of Digital Catapult, Vice-Chair of the Northern Power House and a visiting professor at both Manchester and Manchester Met Universities. A champion for the revival of northern industry, through responsible business and vibrant green 4th industrial technology, he is also an adviser for innovation, technology and industrial tech start-ups.
Maier joined Siemens in 1986 as a graduate after completing a BSc in Production Engineering at Nottingham Trent University. During his 33 years at Siemens, he held many senior roles, becoming CEO of Siemens UK between 2014-2019. In 2017, asked by government to lead a review into digitalization of UK manufacturing, his advice resulted in a joint industry/government initiative called Made Smarter.
Recognising his services to Science and Engineering, Maier was awarded honorary doctorates from the Universities of Lincoln, Nottingham Trent, Salford, Manchester, Cranfield, Sheffield and Manchester Met. Made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2017 he was awarded a CBE in 2019. In 2020 he was awarded a Fellowship of the City & Guild Institute for his support to technical apprenticeships and workplace upskilling for 4th industrial revolution tech.
