Jonathan Broom-Edwards is a truly inspiring Paralympian, whose story of triumph in the face of his disability leaves a positive impact on audiences. Over the course of his career, he has achieved silver medal success at three World Championships, one European Championship and, after making his Paralympic debut at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games, achieved a further silver medal. Showing no signs of slowing down, Jonathan is set to further take the Paralympic stage by storm and appear in numerous international competitions in the upcoming years. His after-dinner speeches focus on dealing with adversity, building mental resilience and focus, as well as developing the ‘what it takes to win’ mentality inspired by his career as a sports therapist.
After qualifying for the British Paralympic team as a T44 athlete, used to categorise athletes with a below the knee amputation. Starting at the 2013 Lyon World Championship, Jonathan kickstarted his string of silver medals, including accolades at the 2015 Doha World Championships, 2017 London World Championships and 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. In 2014, Jonathan temporarily broke and held the T44 high jump world record, at the 2014 Swansea European Championships. Having experienced the highs and lows of elite sport, he instils in audiences the strategies needed to overcome periods of immense pressure. Most recently at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, Jonathan claimed Paralympic Gold in the high jump.
Jonathan has a condition called Talipes Equinovarus, otherwise known as a "club foot". Though the condition limited his childhood, restricting his motion and causing muscle weakness, sport allowed him to push his potential and achieve his goals. He has competed in sport all his life, initially playing basketball and later bursting into the international field of athletics in 2013. Passionate to empower others to follow in his successful footsteps, Jonathan has recently become a MiricleFoot Ambassador. Audiences of Jonathan's speeches benefit from his experience of overcoming adversity. He inspires guests to acknowledge their true potential, redefine their limitations and break out of their comfort zone.
During his motivational and after-dinner speeches, Jonathan bridges the gap between the principles of business and elite sport. He relates the drive, determination and "winning mindset" essential for Paralympic success, including the attitude needed to build a market-leading, sustainable business. With an emphasis on training the mind to deal with differing types of situations, Jonathan inspires audiences to push their potential and overcome personal and professional limitations, to achieve their goals. The values have resulted in him starring in the 2022 series of SAS: Who Dares Wins? For corporate audiences, his knowledge of high-performance teams can revolutionise the workplace, increasing employee retention and productivity.
