Former football player John Sheridan has now turned his hand to football management and after dinner speaking. With more than 35 caps for the National Irish Team and appearances for teams including Manchester City and Nottingham Forest under his belt as a player, Sheridan has amassed a variety of skills and knowledge around effective teamwork exercises and maintaining drive and determination. As a manager, he also has a lot of advice to pass on surrounding leadership and directing a team or organisation.
During his career as a footballer, John made over 600 appearances on the pitches of various British teams. A strong midfielder, he managed to score almost 90 goals within his 23-year long club career as well as five goals internationally. Some of his most notable moments include when he scored the winning ‘rocket’ goal for Sheffield Wednesday against Manchester United in the 1991 Football League Cup Final and contributing to the league winning efforts of Bolton Wanderers in the 1996-97 season.
Following on from his retirement as a player in 2003, Sheridan became the coach to Oldham Athletic’s first team before becoming the manager in 2006. Within his first few months of management, he was voted Football League One Manager of the Month suggesting he has a pure talent for leadership. Having also led teams such as Chesterfield and Nott’s County, some of his best achievements include winning the Football League Two: 2010-11 and Football League Trophy: 2011-12 titles.
Most recently, Sheridan has made a return to Chesterfield where he has overseen 52 goals and 17 wins throughout the 2019-2020 season. A manager that has more than 650 club wins to his name, it’s evident that John Sheridan has a lot to share on effective leadership and teamwork.
