Joanne Anderson is best known as the first woman of colour to be directly elected as Mayor in any city in the United Kingdom. As Mayor of the Liverpool City Council for 2 years, Joanne was responsible for formulating strategies and policies related to 3 portfolios – employment, diversity, equity and inclusion and waste strategy. Her impeccable leadership shone through, and Joanne was able to transform the organisational culture within the council. Now available to speak at a wide range of events, Joanne touches upon subjects such as diversity & inclusion, racial equality and social justice.

Joanne’s tenure was rife with challenges, both personal and professional. Leading the city during its most tumultuous period in history whilst also battling a newfound breast cancer diagnosis is no easy feat. However, she was able to transform the city, allowing it to thrive and even secure the 2023 Eurovision hosting rights – a matter of great pride. Joanne is truly the embodiment of perseverance and determination.
