She is recognised for her leadership in shaping ethical and legal frameworks for AI governance, particularly in military and peacekeeping contexts. Jimena is the founder, managing director and CEO of IQuilibriumAI, a consultancy firm specialising in AI and Peace, Security, Humanitarian, Environmental and Rule of Law issues. She is also the president of the HumAlne Foundation and the founder of the Global South Synergies and Resilience Platform, which serves in various capacities across different fields to bolster scalable and expansive, meaningful impact, with a special focus on vulnerable communities. Jimena is also a member of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Advisory Body on AI. Here she contributes to global recommendations on AI governance. Additionally, she is a Commissioner within the Global Commission on Responsible AI in the Military Domain and she serves as lead for the Broader Peace and Security Risks and Responses where she focuses on the responsible use of AI in military applications. Her international background includes prominent legal institutions, including the International Criminal Court, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, and the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia, where she contributed to the disarmament process of the FARC. She has also worked for the Lebanese Supreme Court and has served as Chief of Staff and Head Legal Advisor at the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice.

Some of her notable publications include Autonomous Weapons Systems: The Accountability Conundrum, which was published by the Legal Research Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
